Annie’s Abdominal Hysterectomy
Age at Surgery 44
Location: Bay Shore, NY United StatesI had been diagnosed with Adnomyosis. My hemorrhaging was completely out of control. I would bleed for weeks at a time, through clothing. I even bled through at work one time onto my office chair which was light grey canvas. I was changing super plus tampons on the hour and still bleeding through. Towards the end, I would get severe pelvic pain where I couldn’t stand upright completely. It was affecting every aspect of my life in a negative way.
After my operation, my doctor informed me that I had nothing on my right side. No right ovary and no right Fallopian tube. I had no idea. My uterus was three times the size of a normal uterus. I am so happy I got this done, despite being young.
Surgery was abdominal. My hospital experience was not good. I had a terrible roommate the first night and just made it awful. My pain was significant, but I didn’t like the intravenous pain meds I was given so after a night of not clicking the meds button, I was given oral pain meds. This worked better for me. I remained in the hospital for 4 days.
My issues were being able to do every day activities because I had no help. It was just me in the house with a new pup. My recovery was fairly easy. My worries now are full menopause and the symptoms associated with this. I feel my hormones are not correct, and I am not sure what to do next. I was cleared back to work in 8 weeks.
My health is definitely better. I am also eating better and exercising more. I am so glad I had the hysterectomy.
My advice is make sure you have someone to help you for the first couple weeks. It is overwhelming and very difficult to complete everyday tasks, even small ones like getting up from the couch and the bed. Walking the dog was impossible. To not feel less of a woman.
