Samantha’s Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Age at Surgery 34
Location: Pinehurst NC USA
I had my hysterectomy because of severe endometriosis. This was my second opinion, my first doctor wanted to put me through all kinds of hormone treatments that I was not interested in doing. I am done having children I was ready to just take it all out. I only had a total hysterectomy, I still have my ovaries however they took my uterus Fallopian tubes and cervix. I suffered for 15 years with endometriosis and PCOS, I dealt with infertility and had to undergo treatment to have my one and only son and decided I didn’t want to put myself through that anymore.
I checked into the hospital on October 9, 2019 around 8 that morning and they didn’t start surgery until about 12:30. The day of surgery i was having severe pain and I could not wait to get the surgery going, it was almost reassuring me of my decision. My surgery took right at 3 hours and I was in recovery about an hour. I stayed over night in the hospital and was discharged to go home the next day around lunch. I had very little pain, maybe just a little cramping, very tolerable. I also had very little bleeding at first.
My recovery was very easy. I was out of work for 4 weeks (my doctor wanted 6 weeks, but I talked him into an early release) Around day 10 of recovery I started to bleed bright blood, I went to my doctor and checked me and everything was fine just a little tender so he assured me that the bleeding was a normal process of healing. I was not release for sexual activity for 6 weeks, but when I was released the sex was AMAZING I was very afraid that it would not be but I have been like a teenager ever since can’t get enough! It has been life changing for our sex life!
I have been doing great. I have had a couple of days here and there with some pain I assume it is from the PCOS but I will take a few days a month verses most days of the month. I am very glad I had a hysterectomy, if I had to do it over I would do it every time.
Just take your time deciding, make sure you weigh out all pros and cons. Listen to your doctor do everything he asks you to do. Make sure you have help during recovery time. YOU WILL DO GREAT!
