Serena’s Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Age at Surgery 47
Location: Queens Ny
I had a total hysterectomy due to fibroids. I did not explore other treatments because I wanted a full hysterectomy because there are a lot of my family members that passed away with cervical cancer.
My surgery was a good experience, i had total anesthesia and I woke up with no pain at all. The next morning I had a lot of trouble passing gas and I was given a suppository that helped, I spent one night at the hospital and was discharged the next day.
Two days post op I had an anxiety attack for the first time in my life, I cried a lot but that went away after a day or so. My recovery was easy because I just had a little pain when I would try to stand up straight, but sleeping on my back was necessary but hard for me as I am a side sleeper, it took at least two weeks before i was able to return to my normal sleep position. I am a hairdresser and I started working four days after the surgery, I felt good but did experience some dizziness. I had intercourse for the first time after my surgery two weeks ago and it was very painful, I felt like I was having intercourse for the first time in my life. I have absolutely no desire to have intercourse. It’s very weird, but like two weeks after the surgery, I would have orgasms while sleeping this went on for weeks, so yes, it is possible to still get an orgasm after a full hysterectomy.
My health is good since the hysterectomy, I’ve noticed that the only time I really get hot flashes is when I drink soda or eat too much sugar or hot chocolate. My tummy have been flat since the surgery, but about three weeks ago it just bloated up and I look like I’m seven months pregnant. I have a very slender build and I am very concerned about my stomach. But other than that, I’m happy I had the surgery.
I would advice women to ask their doctor a lot of questions, especially about coping with onset anxiety after surgery, and also ask about what to expect about your sex life after surgery. It is important for women to know that some things in life as you know it will change, but most for the better at least in my case.
