Sarita’s Hysterectomy Story
Type of Hysterectomy: TAH
Age at Hysterectomy: 40
Location: Indianapolis, IN
I had a hysterectomy due to anemia, fibroids, and heavy bleeding. I suffered for 9 months until I had my surgery. I was told by two doctors that I need a hysterectomy done. No other treatment would help. It was getting worse.
I had my surgery during the early morning. I was put to sleep and woke up in the recovery room. I stay in the hospital for 3 days. The nurses were very kind and respectful.
My recovery was not easy after leaving the hospital. It was painful for a couple weeks. I had trouble sleeping. I was tired all the times. My appetite was light. No I didn’t have worries about life after hysterectomy. I was released at 6 weeks and was able to return to my regular activities. My greatest challenge was that I had to take care of myself. I was able to see who were my real and fake friends during my recovery.
Yes my health did improve since my hysterectomy. I gained 10 pounds and my red blood count is stable. I stop bleeding on the day of my surgery. I have to go for follow up checkup every 6 months cause the tumor can come back again.
Hysterectomy is a scary situation that can make you nervous. I was scared. Life had been positive and happier for me after my hysterectomy surgery. I got my self esteem back and laugh. My attitude changed to a better positive outlook. When you is faced with a hysterectomy/surgery, remember that you will be in good hand with the doctor. They do care about your health. They listen and tell you their opinions. They have experiences to understand what women go through dealing with hysterectomy.
