Kim’s Hysterectomy Story
Type of Hysterectomy: Complete
Age at Hysterectomy: 40
Location: Iowa
I had had cysts on my ovaries and endometriosis since my early 20’s. Over the years I had issues. But in December 2013 my period was late which concerned me. Then on Dec 26 it started and by the 2nd week in Jan 2014 I had lost so much blood that I had to have an emergency transfusion. My body was 7 pints low. The doctor gave me 4 units and wanted to see if my body could build the other 3 on its own so that I could have the surgery.
Before the Dr would do the hysterectomy I had to have a blood transfusion and DNC. Two weeks later I had a complete hysterectomy with no complications. They had to do the abdominal incision because of all of the scar tissue and endometriosis. I spent 3 days in the hospital with no complications.
I really didn’t have any worries after the surgery…I was excited to be pain free and feel better.
I feel so much better since surgery. I now feel like playing outside with my kids. I no longer hurt and feel worn down all of the time.
The only thing I’ve noticed is that my sex drive is lower than before my surgery. And I’m not sure why but I think being in pain for so many years plays a major role in it.
